May 5th will be a zoo! Big props to Mt Creek for putting it out there right from the start. You know if they don't one though they will get flamed, so let's hope for the best.
I've been riding there for 3 years now, and I'm not going to slam Sean. I think every year the trails got better, new trails showed up, and Sean ad to work around the schedule of an off season ski resort. Let's face it, that's when ski resorts fix stuff, add stuff, etc. now they're a year round facility under a single management, so new challenges are coming.
Hopefully they can learn from Whistler and bring that level of riding to the East. Give me an East Coast Camp of Champions, I'll take some training from any of those coaches. Toss in 20 miles of East Coast single track up top and you'll get a lot more riders up there every week.
Congrats, see you all in May!
I had a Trek 69er single speed that was set up that way and it was pretty sweet. Accelerated great, better than my 5" all mountain bike, and the 29" front wheel really rolls over stuff a lot better than a 26". If they can get a front fork with 7" of travel, this would be a winning setup. A 31mm rim with 36 spokes would be very stiff and put down a lot of contact. I'm sure it would corner better than a 26" front, but might be limited for north shore stunts at slow speed. If Maxxis releases a 29" 2.5 Minion, you'll know why.
As much as we all love DH, the largest market segment is still the 5" all mountain bike. This format opens the door to get more people in to racing, and more people coming to resorts like Highland. Add this as a Saturday event to the regional DH series and see what kind of turnout you get. People may be more likely to stick around to watch the Sunday races too.
Just plan the courses so a guy on a V10 carbon or Session 9.9 doesn't win, add some uphill to the stages! I'd love to see special #2 end at mile marker 3. Then you really have to plan what bike to race with.
I think the TI version are only black and white, the regular MG-1's come in colors, and those are under $50 shipped. Great deal for sure.
Maybe I don't know any better, but I'm sold on the Wellgo MG-1's. I'm on my 2nd pair, way more grip than 50/50's, and I just splurged and spent the extra money for the Ti version. So for about $80 I have great grip that weighs 286 grams, that's less than my CB Candy pedals. True they only come in black or white, but they get destroyed so quickly in the East that buying a cool anodized color would make me cry over every rock strike. About Us
